ChatGPT describes your product wrong: how to correct what it says
You can't edit ChatGPT's answer, but you can fix what it reads. Find the page a wrong description came from, correct it at the source, then recheck.

You cannot edit what ChatGPT says about your company, but you can fix what it reads. Ask each engine for a one-line description of your product, note every error, trace each one to the page it came from (engines with search cite their sources), correct your own pricing and About pages first, then the third-party profiles, and check again once the pages have been recrawled.
Wrong AI descriptions usually have a source you can find: an old launch listing, an outdated About page, a pricing page you forgot to redirect, or a model trained before you changed something. Below is how to find the source and fix it, checked in September 2026.
How do you find out what AI engines say about your product?
Ask them directly, in each engine, with the same questions, and write the answers down. Ask for a one-sentence description, the price, the pricing model, who founded the company and when, and who the product is for. Use your product name and domain together so the engine does not confuse you with a similarly named company.
These five prompts surface the errors that matter most:
"In one sentence, what is [Name] ([domain])?"
"How much does [Name] cost, and how is it priced?"
"Who founded [Name], and when?"
"Who is [Name] best for?"
"What are the main alternatives to [Name]?"
Run them in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. In ChatGPT, run each question twice: once as a normal chat and once with Search turned on from the tools menu. The difference between those two answers tells you where the error lives.
Sort what you find into error types, because each has a typical source:

How do I correct wrong information ChatGPT gives about my company?
Find where the wrong fact comes from, then fix it there. With search on, ChatGPT cites its sources, so open them and look for the outdated sentence. Correct your own pricing and About pages first, then third-party profiles and articles, and recheck after they have been recrawled.
An old About page, a directory category, early press coverage
Wrong pricing model
"Free" when you are paid-only, or monthly when you sell one-time
An old pricing page, a launch listing written before you changed plans
Wrong price
A plan price you retired
A cached or unredirected pricing URL, a comparison article
Wrong founding facts
Wrong year, wrong founder, wrong country
A business database profile or a mistaken article
Confused identity
Facts from another company with a similar name
Missing entity signals: no Organization schema, inconsistent names
Where do wrong AI descriptions come from?
From one of two places: the model's training data, or the pages the engine found when it searched. Training data has a cutoff date, so anything you changed after it is invisible to the model unless it searches. Search-based answers are only as current as the pages they find, and OpenAI warns that "Search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect."
Anthropic's help center shows how cutoffs work in practice: it lists a training cutoff for every Claude model, from August 2023 for Claude Opus 3 to June 2026 for the newest, and says these models "may not be aware of events or information that occurred after their respective cutoff dates." A pricing change you made last spring can be correct on your site and unknown to an older model.

How do you trace a wrong answer back to the page it came from?
Open the sources. ChatGPT's help center says responses that use search "may include citations," and the Sources button lists "cited sources and other relevant links." Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI features also show linked sources. Open each one, find the sentence that contains the wrong fact, and note the URL.
If the cited pages look correct, search for the wrong fact itself. Put the old price or the wrong founding year in quotes and search Google and Bing with your brand name. The common culprits:
Your own old pricing page, still live at an old URL or still in your sitemap.
An About page that describes the product as it was at launch.
Launch directories and listings written from your first version.
Business databases such as Crunchbase, filled in once and never updated.
Wikipedia or Wikidata. In Profound's citation data, Wikipedia was ChatGPT's single most cited domain, at 7.8% of all citations.
Comparison articles that list a plan you have since retired.
Community threads where someone described an earlier version.
Fix your own site first, because it is the source every other page copies and the one you control completely. Put the correct price, pricing model and plan names on the pricing page as plain text, state what the product is and who founded it on the About page, and remove or redirect every outdated page that still states the old facts.
Pricing page: write each plan's name, price and billing period in HTML text, not only in an image or a script-loaded widget.
About page: one sentence saying what the company is, the founding year and the founders, matching what you want engines to repeat.
Home page: the same one-sentence description near the top.
Old URLs: redirect retired pricing or feature pages to their replacements. Bing's guidelines ask for 301 redirects for permanent moves and a 404 for content that is permanently removed.
Sitemap: remove the old URLs and update lastmod on the pages you changed.
Notify search engines: request indexing for the changed pages in Search Console, and send the URLs through IndexNow for Bing, which Bing says helps "reduce outdated or incorrect URL references in Copilot responses."
Check access: OpenAI says sites must allow OAI-SearchBot to be eligible for ChatGPT search, and a robots.txt change can take about 24 hours to register.
How do you get third-party pages corrected?
Edit what you own, request edits for what you do not, and bring a public source that shows the correct fact. Profiles you control, such as LinkedIn, Crunchbase, directory listings and review-site profiles, you can update today. Articles and databases you do not control need a short, specific correction request with a link to proof.
Directory and review profiles: log in and update the description, category and pricing. Use your one-sentence description word for word.
Articles: email the author or editor with the exact sentence that is wrong, the correct fact, and a link to the page that states it.
Wikidata: you may edit the item about your company, with references, but Wikidata's guidance says not to remove sourced statements yourself. If you think one is wrong, raise it on Project chat.
Google knowledge panel: verify that you represent the company, then use Suggest edits. Google says it reviews verified feedback "within a few days."
Google AI Overviews: click the icon Google labels as a bad overview, then Report a problem, choose the category and describe the error. Google tells users AI Overviews "can and will make mistakes."
Community threads: reply with the correction and say who you are.
How do you keep the description consistent everywhere?
Write one sentence that says what the product is, who it is for and how it is priced, and use it unchanged on your home page, About page, Organization schema and every profile. Engines repeat what many sources agree on, so one consistent sentence across ten sites outweighs ten slightly different ones.
Put the same sentence in the description property of your Organization JSON-LD; Google describes the property as "A detailed description of your organization." The full block is in Organization schema markup, and the wider consistency work (one exact name, matching profiles, a Wikidata item) is in entity SEO for a new brand.
How long until AI answers show the correction?
It depends on which route the error took. Search-based answers change once the corrected pages have been recrawled and the old ones have dropped out, which you can speed up with indexing requests and IndexNow. Answers from training data change only when a model trained after your correction is released, so judge progress by what engines say with search on.
Re-run the same five prompts monthly in every engine and keep the answers side by side. Treat an error as fixed when it has stopped appearing across engines for a full month, not after one clean answer, because generated answers vary from run to run. The monthly method, with the metrics to track, is in how to measure AI visibility.
Check what seven engines say about you in one audit
LaunchScaler's full audit checks the accuracy of the one-line description each answer engine gives of your brand, looking for material errors such as the wrong category, pricing model, founding facts or founder, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot. It also checks for Organization schema and runs 10 buyer questions through the same 7 engines. It costs $19 once for your domain and unlocks on your report after the free scan. Run the free scan first, then open the full audit.
Why does ChatGPT have outdated information about my business?
Either it is answering from training data with a cutoff date before your change, or it searched and found an outdated page, such as an old directory listing, press coverage or your own stale pricing page. OpenAI warns that search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect.
03
Can I contact OpenAI to fix what ChatGPT says about my company?
OpenAI's publisher documentation covers crawler access and eligibility for ChatGPT search, not editing answers about a company. The practical route is to fix the pages ChatGPT reads and make sure OAI-SearchBot can reach your site.
04
How long does it take for AI to update information about my company?
For answers built from search, it depends on how quickly the corrected pages are recrawled. For answers from a model's training data, it changes only when a model trained after your correction is released, which is why checking with search turned on matters.
05
How do I fix wrong information in Google's AI Overviews?
Correct the source pages, then use the feedback control on the AI Overview: click the icon Google labels as a bad overview, choose Report a problem and describe the error. If Google shows a knowledge panel for your company, verified representatives can suggest edits to it.
Three ways to see AI bot traffic (server logs, Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control, host log drains) and how to verify real bots against published IP ranges.
ClaudeBot collects training data, Claude-SearchBot indexes pages for Claude's search and Claude-User fetches pages users ask for. Each obeys its own group.
