LaunchScaler vs BetaList: free queue vs paid review
BetaList charges every submission and editors pick who is featured, refunding the rest. LaunchScaler lists free from a queue and ties its link to a scan.

BetaList and LaunchScaler take opposite routes to a listing. BetaList charges every submission, has editors pick which startups are featured, refunds the ones it does not select, and features each startup for a day; LaunchScaler lists any site for free from its queue (or on a day you choose for $29 with Premium), keeps the listing permanently, and decides its one dofollow link by a 156-check readiness scan of your site.
Which fits depends mostly on your stage. BetaList is built for pre-launch and recently launched startups and wants a waitlist or sign-up on the page. LaunchScaler lists a live site and checks how ready it is. Every BetaList term below comes from its own FAQ, submission guidelines and advertising pages, read in September 2026.
How do LaunchScaler and BetaList compare?
The difference starts at the door. BetaList is paid and selective: its editors review each submission and refund the ones they decline. LaunchScaler is free to enter and not editorial: the URL is the only thing you submit, and a scan of the site decides whether the link it gives you is followed.

Is BetaList free?
No. BetaList's FAQ says "All submissions are paid. There is no free submission option," and adds that it used to offer free submissions but no longer does. Payment is taken when you choose a plan and check out; the editorial team then reviews the startup and emails you the decision.
If the startup is not selected, the refund is full and automatic, and BetaList says it can take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement. Once a startup has been featured, refunds are not available. BetaList does not publish submission prices on a public page: "Current plans and prices are shown at the end of the submission form." Plans differ mainly by how quickly you are featured and whether newsletter inclusion is guaranteed, and every plan includes a do-follow link if you are featured.
LaunchScaler's free launch costs nothing and gives "your listing from the day the queue reaches you," with LaunchScaler's badge on your site or a one-time fee to skip it. Its Premium launch is $29 one-time and books any open day, today included.
What does BetaList look for, and what does LaunchScaler check?
BetaList's editors choose. Its FAQ says they prioritise "a clear value proposition, have an idea we haven't seen before, and have a well-designed landing page," and that they receive thousands of submissions a month and cannot give feedback on individual ones. Its submission guidelines add more specific rules.
The product should be recently launched or still unreleased; significant press coverage makes it less suitable.
It must be a technology startup; blogs, courses, books, newsletters, subscription e-commerce and consultancies are out.
The landing page must look distinct: free or paid templates, default Bootstrap styling, a page with only an explainer video, and pages hosted by services such as LaunchRock or Unbounce do not qualify.
Visitors must be able to sign up, download or log in; "Follow us on X to get notified" is not enough.
LaunchScaler measures instead of choosing. Its 156-check readiness scan reads the site across search, AI visibility, security, compliance, speed and visual, and whether the site works, with no account needed, and shows a verdict for each check. The listing is built from what the site says, and passing the readiness bar is "what earns the followed link." The listing does not wait for a pass; the followed link does.
Which gives the better link to your site?
Both can give a followed link, on different conditions. BetaList's is certain once you are featured: BetaList says the "Visit Site" button does not use rel="nofollow", and that it routes through a 301 redirect that adds ref=betalist. BetaList notes that some SEO tools show its URL rather than yours in reports, and says that is a tool limitation, not lost link value.
LaunchScaler's link depends on your site, not on payment or selection. Each listing can earn 1 dofollow backlink by passing the readiness scan, free or paid; the pricing page says of Premium, "The followed link still needs a pass." The guide to launch platforms that give a dofollow backlink sets every major platform's rule side by side.
How long does each keep you visible?
BetaList's feature is one day long. Its boost page describes being featured as a one-time event, in which your startup appears on BetaList for a day and then moves down the list. BetaList generally features each startup once, with one exception: a startup featured pre-launch can be featured again at launch, with at least a few weeks between the two.
To stay visible longer, BetaList sells a boost to featured startups at $99 a week or $199 a month, which puts the startup in the "Boosted" section of the homepage and in the daily newsletter, rotated among active boosts. The boost page gives the newsletter as 70,000+ subscribers; the plan cards say 60k+. A full sponsorship is $4,999 a month.
LaunchScaler's listing does not expire: it is permanent in category and search, with an About section and pros and cons written from your site and a community thread. A Premium listing also stays in the permanent curated index after its standing on the daily board decays.
What are the alternatives to BetaList?
If BetaList's rules or price rule you out, the other launch platforms set different conditions, each checked on its own site in September 2026.
Platform
Its condition
Note for a BetaList-shaped product
LaunchScaler
Free launch with its badge or a one-time fee to skip it, or Premium on any open day
Lists live sites; the followed link needs a passing readiness scan
Product Hunt
Free; the day starts at 12:01 am Pacific
Does not feature waitlisted products unless immediate access is provided
Uneed
Free line with a date 30 days to 5 months out, or paid dates
Free submissions are moderated and can be declined
SaaSCity
Free with its badge and an estimated 210-day queue, or paid passes
Quick Pass puts a listing live within 24 hours
Show HN
Free
Wants something people can try; landing pages and sign-up pages are off topic
A pre-launch startup has the fewest options, because Product Hunt will not feature a waitlist and Show HN will not take a landing page. That is the gap BetaList fills, and it is worth paying for if your page meets its design rules. Once you are live, every platform in the table is open to you.
Which should you choose?
Choose by your stage and by what you want to have a month later. A pre-launch startup with a strong landing page and a waitlist is exactly what BetaList selects for. A live product that wants a listing which stays, and a link that depends on the site rather than an editor, fits LaunchScaler.
Your situation

Why
Pre-launch, collecting sign-ups on your own domain
BetaList
It features "pre-launch and recently launched startups"
Built on a template landing page
LaunchScaler
BetaList does not accept templates; LaunchScaler's public pages set no design rule
You want a listing that stays after the day
LaunchScaler
Permanent listing in category and search
You want a guaranteed followed link once accepted
BetaList
Featured listings are do-follow
You want to launch on a specific day now
LaunchScaler Premium
Any open day, today included
You can use both. A startup featured on BetaList as pre-launch can use its second BetaList chance at launch, and list on LaunchScaler at the same time on a separate day. For the full field, see best product launch platforms and the Product Hunt alternatives.
Book your launch day with Premium
If your product is live and you want a date you control, LaunchScaler's Premium launch is $29, paid once. It books any open day, today included, writes your listing for you from your own scan, and puts nothing on your site because paying skips the badge. The listing stays in the permanent curated index after its standing decays, and the dofollow link still needs your site to pass the readiness scan. Get Premium, or choose the free launch on the same page if the queue suits you.
BetaList shows submission prices at the end of its submission form rather than on a public page. Its public prices are for promotion: a boost at $99 a week or $199 a month for featured startups, and a sponsorship at $4,999 a month.
03
Does BetaList give a dofollow backlink?
Yes, if you are featured. BetaList says the Visit Site button on a featured listing is a do-follow link that routes through a 301 redirect with ref=betalist attribution.
04
What is the difference between LaunchScaler and BetaList?
BetaList is paid, editorially selected and aimed at pre-launch and recently launched startups, featured for a day. LaunchScaler lists a site for free from its queue, or on a chosen day for $29 with Premium, keeps the listing permanently, and gives its dofollow link only to sites that pass a 156-check readiness scan.
05
Can a vercel.app or netlify.app site be listed on BetaList?
No. BetaList requires your own domain and does not accept free hosting subdomains such as vercel.app, netlify.app or herokuapp.com, or direct links to app stores.
Product Hunt is a free, one-day launch where votes and featuring decide visibility. LaunchScaler scans your site and keeps a permanent listing. Use both.
SaaSCity's free plan needs its badge and a 210-day queue; Quick Pass is $19.99. LaunchScaler's free launch needs a badge or fee; Premium is $29, any day.
Uneed's free line waits 30 days to 5 months and ties the link to upvotes; LaunchScaler ties it to a site scan. Queues, prices, links and reviews compared.
